In my mind, I want you to be free. – The Temptations, “Silent Night 12:25”
There was a point in time when the Christmas season seemed to be heavily focused on spending spending spending. It was a time when trying to keep up with the Joneses appeared to be most prominent. For some of those that couldn’t actually keep up, it put a damper on their spirits. But, I want you to be free…Free from worrying about the amount being spent and focus on how the actual holiday is being spent.
Let’s be clear, this isn’t a pocket watching post. No Grinch over here. If you have the ability to go big and that is what you want to do, I’m here for it! I just want it to be known that it’s not all about materialistic things, especially if you’re not in the position to go all out for them. Instead concentrate on making new memories. For example, last Christmas 13 of us (yes, you read that right) stayed together for the weekend. We had plenty of food, drinks and games. We also exchanged small gifts. Hands down one of the best holidays that I’ve ever had. No gift could give the amount of love and fun that particular experience provided.
I’m also aware that some don’t celebrate and for others, holidays can be difficult for other reasons that have nothing to do with finances. To you I say, “Tis the season for self-care.” Take advantage of the day(s) off that you have and do what you need to do for you to make it through. If you need self-care tips check some out here. Above all else, please just take care of yourself.
Wishing you peace this season and on into the new year! Catch you in 2023.
